Mellanox support referred to the ConnectX-4 Lx firmware release notes for tested passive copper cables and SFP28 modules, and expected no issue with spec-compliant cables even though the HPE 5950 was not specifically tested; HPE's datasheet lists its own tested cables.
A member suggested 10Gtek MSA-compliant twinax cables that work across HPE and Mellanox.
