Nuovo lotto di SFP J4858D segnalato come Unsupported Transceiver sugli switch HP 2530 mentre le unità più vecchie funzionano
Su una quarantina di switch ProCurve/Aruba l'autore aveva usato SFP 1G SX J4858C e J4858D senza problemi, ma otto unità J4858D appena acquistate registravano Unsupported Transceiver su 2530-8G (J9774A, YA.15.16.0006), 2530-8G (J9777A, YA.15.12.0007) e 2530-24G (J9776A, YA.15.10.0003). show tech transceivers mostrava ?? per tipo e product number e la nota This switch only supports revision B and above transceivers. Confezione ed etichette sembravano genuine. Aggiornare uno switch all'ultimo firmware non ha aiutato.

J4858C/D sono SKU usati anche da venditori terzi per moduli compatibili; verifica visivamente che ogni unità sia genuina e tramite show tech transceivers, e controlla i numeri seriali con il servizio di validazione prodotto HPE.
Il lotto è stato restituito al rivenditore; le unità sostitutive (confezione diversa) hanno funzionato subito e sono state validate come genuine, quindi si è ipotizzato un errore di produzione o di fornitura.
