Poster Cisco UCS C240 server में Intel X520 adapter (Cisco PID N2XX-AIPCI01) install करने और Cisco SFP-10G-SR या SFP-10G-LR transceivers use करने की योजना बना रहा था, और पूछा कि क्या इस combination में compatibility की दिक्कत आ सकती है। बाद में एक reader ने पूछा कि क्या Cisco SFP-H10GB-CU3M= twinax cable इस card के साथ चलेगा। असली वजह यह है कि Intel के ixgbe-based cards non-Intel optics को reject कर देते हैं, जब तक driver को साफ तौर पर unsupported modules allow करने के लिए न कहा जाए।

Cisco एक X520-specific optic बेचता है, CSP-SFP-1WSR= (SFP+ 10GE SR for Intel X520), जो UCS C220 M4 spec sheet के page 45 पर listed है।
Intel X520 cards Cisco SFP+ modules accept नहीं करते; इनके लिए Intel-branded SFP+ optics ही order करें।
Linux पर ixgbe driver को कोई भी module accept करने के लिए कहा जा सकता है: /etc/modprobe.d/ixgbe.conf बनाकर उसमें 'options ixgbe allow_unsupported_sfp=1,1' डालें (हर port के लिए एक value); ESXi और Windows में बिना specially modified drivers के ऐसा कोई option नहीं है।
Twinax के लिए, Intel-branded DAC assemblies X520 cards के साथ काम करती रही हैं; Cisco SFP-H10GB-CU3M= cable किसी ने confirm नहीं किया।
