ethtool -m trên Intel X722 báo lỗi: Module EEPROM memory read not supported, please update the NVM image

Trên một board Intel S2600WFT, con controller X722 10GbE SFP+ (rev 09, NVM 3.31 0x80000d31 1.1767.0) từ chối ethtool -m với Cannot get module EEPROM information: Invalid argument, và kernel log ra Module EEPROM memory read not supported. Please update the NVM image. Hành vi giống hệt với kernel 4.19.65 cộng i40e out-of-tree 2.9.21, i40e in-tree 2.3.2-k và kernel 5.2.5 với i40e 2.8.20-k, trong khi cùng module SFP+ và driver đó lại chạy tốt trên một X710. Theo dõi trên mailing list e1000-devel cho thấy NVM cần thiết là 6.01 (như trên X710) so với 3.31 trên X722, nhưng công cụ update NVM 4.00 fail với lỗi configuration mismatch và lỗi flash verification, và tính năng này vẫn không dùng được sau khi thử update.
