HPE 2920 reports Transceiver type not supported in this port for a genuine J9283B DAC
2
An HPE 2920 (J9729A, firmware WB.15.17.0009) with the J9731A 10G expansion module was connected to a DL380 Gen8 with a 560SFP+ NIC using a genuine HPE X242 3 m SFP+ DAC (J9283B). Port A1 with a J9150A SR module worked, but port A2 with the DAC logged Transceiver type not supported in this port and stayed down. The poster wanted to know whether the cable, the module or the firmware was at fault.

The J9283B is supported on the J9731A module; non-genuine cables would need allow-unsupported-transceiver (available from WB.16.02), so upgrade the firmware and reboot first.
Swap the DAC and the SR module between A1 and A2 to see whether the fault follows the cable; if so the cable is defective and should be replaced under warranty (the poster opened a support case).
