EdgeRouter 4 drops the WAN every 3-60 min with an Alcatel-Lucent GPON SFP: Failed to read SFP EEPROM_1 val -6
After moving a Bell fibre connection from an ER-X to an ER-4 with the ISP's Alcatel-Lucent/Nokia GPON SFP (3FE46541AA / G-010S-P) plugged directly into eth3, the WAN dropped every 3 to 60 minutes; syslog had hundreds of kernel: Failed to read SFP EEPROM_1 at byte 0 val -6!! entries and SFP module removed from eth3 at every drop. DDM values looked sane (35.8 C, 3.29 V, TX 1.79 mW, RX 0.01 mW). Firmware 1.10.5, 1.10.6 and 2.0 alpha behaved the same, and the module worked flawessly in the ISP router and in a Cisco SG300 used as a media converter. Several other Bell customers reported the identical pattern with the Alcatel unit, while Huawei sticks worked.

Ubiquiti's compatible-SFP list does not include the ISP GPON stick; other GPON modules were made to work on EdgeSwitches only with effort.
Working workaround: put the GPON SFP into a switch (Netgear or Cisco SG300) in an isolated two-port VLAN and feed the ER-4 over copper, sacrificing two switch ports; the poster shelved the ER-4 and went back to the ER-X.
Ubiquiti reportedly started looking at the issue around EdgeOS 2.0.3 after user reports, but users on 2.0.6 still saw it.
