An HP 5900AF-48XG-4QSFP+ (Comware 7.1.045 R2311P01) logged OPTMOD/4/PHONY_MODULE: This is not a supported transceiver for this platform for two 10G SR SFP+ modules; display transceiver interface identified them as Avago and JDSU 10G_BASE_SR_SFP with DDM. The poster wanted to know which SFP+ to buy and how to read the installed part remotely. The data-centre side (a Cisco 6500 TenGigabitEthernet port) showed 68270 input errors, 68439 giants and a huge overrun counter, and fibres had already been replaced.

  • Hardware: HPE 5900AF-48XG-4QSFP+, Cisco Catalyst 6500
  • Transceivers: Avago 10G SR SFP+, JDSU 10G SR SFP+
  • Form factor: SFP+

Use display transceiver interface Ten-GigabitEthernet x/y/z to see vendor and type; Comware flags ProCurve/other-brand optics but they normally work, and several operators run unsupported optics for years while keeping supported ones on IRF links.

Compare the error counters on both sides; the overrun and giant counts on the Cisco side point to a traffic/MTU issue rather than the transceiver, so swapping optics was left as a last resort.
