10GBASE-T SFP+ modules need port up-mode on FlexFabric 5945 but work natively on 5940

H3C-SFP-10G-T-SO 10GBASE-T copper modules (from FS or Solid Optics) worked out of the box in a FlexFabric 5940 (JH398A) with the JH181A 24-port SFP+ card, but in a FlexFabric 5945 (JQ076A) with the same card the ports only came up after manually running port up-mode on the interface. The poster asked whether this was normal behaviour and whether the modules were really supported on the 5945.

  • Hardware: HPE FlexFabric 5945 JQ076A, HPE FlexFabric 5940 JH398A, HPE JH181A SFP+ module
  • Transceivers: H3C-SFP-10G-T-SO 10GBASE-T SFP+
  • Form factor: SFP+

Symptoms / messages:

port stays down until port up-mode is configured
10GBASE-T module not auto-detected

A community expert claimed RJ45 10G transceivers are not supported on the 5945 and pointed to the HPE transceiver compatibility guide.

The poster confirmed the modules are officially listed but decided not to deploy them on the 5945 because relying on forced up-mode seemed unreliable for production.
