Catalyst 3750-X C3KX-NM-10G module reports GLC-SX-MMD as 'Not Present' in some slots
Two Cisco Catalyst 3750-X switches (WS-C3750X-24P-L and WS-C3750X-48P-L) run identical code. A Cisco GLC-SX-MMD is detected normally in Gi1/1/1 of the first switch, but the second switch reports 'media type is Not Present' with 'link type is force-up' on Gi1/1/1, and 'show idprom interface Gi 1/1/1' answers '%No module is present'. The same module was tried in several interfaces of both switches. Shut/no shut, reseating, 'service unsupported-transceiver', 'no errdisable detect cause gbic-invalid' and two reloads changed nothing, and no message appeared on the console or in the log. The second switch carries a C3KX-NM-10G network module whose two 10G SFP+ slots are already used for uplinks; the poster was trying to add 1G SFPs in the two remaining slots.
- Hardware: Cisco Catalyst 3750-X (WS-C3750X-24P-L), Cisco Catalyst 3750-X (WS-C3750X-48P-L), Cisco C3KX-NM-10G network module
- Transceivers: GLC-SX-MMD, 10G SFP+ (unspecified)
- Form factor: SFP, SFP+
Symptoms / messages:
media type is Not Present
%No module is present
link type is force-up
SFP detected in one switch but not in another running the same code

Accepted answer: the C3KX-NM-10G module restricts which combinations of 1G SFP and 10G SFP+ modules can be used across its four slots, which explains why the extra 1G modules are not detected.
Per the module specification the supported layouts are: 1G SFPs in all four slots; 1G in slots 1 and 2 plus one 10G SFP+ in slot 4; one 10G SFP+ in slot 2 plus 1G in slots 3 and 4; or 10G SFP+ in slots 2 and 4 only. With two 10G modules installed the remaining slots cannot take 1G SFPs.
Shut and no shut the interface, reinsert the SFP and watch the console for messages at the moment of insertion.
Reload the switch, which often clears such detection problems; the poster reloaded twice without success.
It might be a software bug; post the full 'show idprom interface Gi 1/1/1' output.
