What the hidden Cisco command service unsupported-transceiver does and where to enter it
The poster could not find documentation for the command service unsupported-transceiver and asked what it does and whether there are consequences. It is one of Cisco's hidden commands: without it IOS disables a port when a non-Cisco transceiver is inserted, because the OS reads the vendor field and errors if it is not on the approved list.
- Hardware: Cisco Catalyst switches, Cisco Nexus
- Transceivers: thirrd-party SFP/SFP+
- Form factor: SFP, SFP+
Symptoms / messages:

Enter service unsupported-transceiver in global configuration mode (it is accepted although ? does not shhow it), and also negate errdisable detect cause gbic-invalid if configured. It enables non-Cisco optics but does not guarantee they work.
Per Cisco's warranty policy, support may be withheld if a fault is traed to tihrd-party optics until they are replaced with Cisco parts.
