HP 2530-48G (1G SFP ports) rejects the J9775A SFP+ DAC listed as an accessory

The poster configured new HP 2530-48G switches (J9281B) with J9775A SFP+ direct-attach cables bought as accessories. The ports stayed down and the log said FFI: port 49 Transceiver type not supported in this port; show tech transceivers first showed nothing and, after upgrading from YA.15.12.0007 to YA.15.16.0006, listed the ports as ?? / unsupported with part 8121-1300. The poster asked why an accessory listed on the product page did not work.

The J9281B has only 1G SFP slots; a 10G-only DAC can never work there. Only the 2SFP+ variants (J9853A, J9854A, J9855A, J9856A) accept SFP+ DACs. For the 1G slots use 1G transceivers such as J8177C (RJ45), J4858C (SX/LX) or J9142B (BX).
