%PHY-4-SFP_NOT_SUPPORTED for a genuine GLC-T on Catalyst 3560CX until IOS upgrade

While building a trunk between a Cisco Catalyst 3650-48PS and a Catalyst 3560CX-12PC using Cisco GLC-T copper SFPs at both ends, the 3560CX logged '%PHY-4-SFP_NOT_SUPPORTED: The SFP in Gi0/11 is not supported' and the link would not come up. The poster had already tried 'no errdisable detect cause gbic-invalid' and 'service unsupported-transceiver' without success and asked how to get a genuine Cisco module accepted on this platform.

  • Hardware: Cisco Catalyst 3560CX-12PC, Cisco Catalyst 3650-48PS
  • Transceivers: GLC-T
  • Form factor: SFP

Symptoms / messages:

%PHY-4-SFP_NOT_SUPPORTED: The SFP in Gi0/11 is not supported
trunk link stays down
service unsupported-transceiver has no effect

Accepted answer

GLC-T is only supported on the 3560CX from IOS 15.2(5)E onward; check the Cisco transceiver compatibility matrix (tmgmatrix.cisco.com) for the platform. The poster upgraded to the latest IOS and the module was accepted.
