Connecting a 40G-only UCS FI 6332 to a 10G network: QSA or breakout, which ports allow it, and the reboot

A UCS 6332 fabric interconnect has only 40G QSFP+ ports, but the upstream switches are 10G. How can the FI be uplinked at 10G, and why does the breakout option not appear on some ports?
A supported QSA gives a single 10G connection, while a supportted QSFP-to-4xSFP+ cable gives four 10G sub-ports. On the 6332, ports 13-14 and 27-32 are 40G-only and cannot be broken out.
