HL15 (Supermicro X11SPH, Intel X722) to a UniFi USW-24-POE: every DAC and SFP fails, BIOS reports SFP not recognised
A pre-built HL15 server (Supermicro X11SPH-nCTPF wth Intel X722 SFP+ ports, Rocky Linux) would not link to a UniFi USW-24-POE over a VANDESAIL SFP+ DAC: the switch port stayed Disconnected under every negotiation setting on both sides. After ordering a 10Gtek cable the host reported network driver is unhealthy and the BIOS said the SFP plugged in is not recognized; four DACs and four SFP modules failed, while a laptop plugged into the switch SFP port worked.
- Hardware: 45HomeLab HL15, Supermicro X11SPH-nCTPF, Intel X722, Ubiquiti USW-24-POE
- Transceivers: VANDESAIL SFP+ DAC, 10Gtek SFP+ DAC, various SFP modules
- Form factor: SFP+, DAC
Symptoms / messages:
port Disconnected
network driver is unhealthy
SFP plugged in is not recognized

VANDESAIL DACs are coded for other platforms and Intel controllers are picky; 10Gtek cables and 1G SFP modules (an SFP+ port runs an SFP at 1G) were suggested, as well as driver options/EEPROM changes, though the X722 cannot be unlocked like the X520.
Update the board firmware (5.5) and involve Supermicro; boot a live Ubuntu to separate hardware from OS problems. The poster suspected a defective board.
