Cannot write to Finisar SFPs with REVELPROG: manufacturer password protection and per-power-up entry

The poster could read and write OEM SFP variants with a REVELPROG and SFP adapter but not three Finisar references, suspecting manufacturer password protection. Finisar only documents the MSA user-EEPROM password in datasheets, not the proprietary manufacturer password, and the same happened with XFP modules.

  • Transceivers: Finisar SFP, Finisar XFP, OEM SFP
  • Form factor: SFP, XFP

Symptoms / messages:

write silently fails on protected module
manufacturer password unknown

Use a script to write the 4-byte password at page A2 address 0x7B (either all four bytes at once or byte by byte); some modules require the password immediately after power-up, so unplug the module between attempts to reset its state. The user planned to test the scripts.
