Three Intel-branded AFBR-703SDZ-IN2 SFP+ failures in three months between an Aruba S2500 and an X520-DA2
In a home lab with an Aruba S2500 PoE switch and an Intel X520-DA2, three of thirteen cheaply bought Intel AFBR-703SDZ-IN2 SFP+ modules (around 15 USD each) failed within three months: links dropped with dark activity LEDs, two on the switch side and one on the NIC side. Warm and cold reboots, cleaning the LC connectors with cleaning pens, and swapping ports and modules were tried. Temperatures were around 36 C.

Check whether failures cluster on one port (possible power delivery issue) and consider generic FS.com modules instead; ventilation was ruled out at 36 C.
Re-testing showed most failed modules still worked after cleaning, so the incidents were partly false alarms; the modules were reused for non-critical links.
