Enabling a third-party transceiver on HPE FlexFabric 5900AF: no CLI switch, ask the supplier to code it for HP 5900
1
A FlexFabric 5900AF running Comware 7.1.035 R2208P01 reported a third-party transceiver as not supported when inserted, while the same class of modules worked in a FlexFabric 7904 on 7.1.045. The poster asked whether support could be enabled by command and whether the Comware version mattered. Hardware involved: HPE FlexFabric 5900AF, HPE FlexFabric 7904, third-party SFP+.
- Hardware: HPE FlexFabric 5900AF, HPE FlexFabric 7904
- Transceivers: third-party SFP+
- Form factor: SFP+
Symptoms / messages:

There is no enable command on Comware; unsupported modules either work out of the box or not, and transceiver phony-alarm-disable only silences the logs. The switch software (2013 build) should be updated to the current R2432 branch.
Tell the third-party vendor before purchase that the module is for an HP 5900 so they code it with the correct HP part number; if they cannot, do not buy it.
An experienced respondent noted that with thousands of deployed optics the only compatibility failures were deliberate vendor locks, plus cases of counterfeit Cisco optics and genuine HP SR modules failing after 3-5 years.
