Do 100 Mbps SFP modules work in a D-Link DES-3200-28F when the compatibility list is outdated?
2
The poster wanted to run 100 Mbps fibre SFP modules in a D-Link DES-3200-28F but the vendor compatibility list only named older switches (DES-1228, DES-1252, DGS-3612G). The question was whether the list was simply stale or whether the modules would be rejected by the newer switch. A related concern was that the DES-3200-28F has 24 Fast Ethernet SFP slots and only four gigabit ports, so a gigabit-only SFP might not work in the 100 Mbps cages.
- Hardware: D-Link DES-3200-28F, D-Link DES-1228, D-Link DES-1252, D-Link DGS-3612G
- Transceivers: 100BASE-FX SFP, 100/1000 dual-rate SFP
- Form factor: SFP

A forum moderator confirmed the modules work in every D-Link switch and the compatibility page had simply not been updated.
On the DES-3200-28F only the four gigabit ports take 1G SFPs; the 100 Mbps cages need 100BASE-FX or dual-rate 100/1000 modules.
Several users reported that D-Link switches are omnivorous and accept a wide range of third-party SFP modules including 100BASE-T copper ones.
