Can a 10G SFP+ transceiver run at 1G on an Aruba 2930 fibre link?
1
A customer saw errors on a fibre link and suspected a speed mismatch with a 1G far end. The poster asked whether 10G SFP+ transceivers are backward compatible with 1G, or whether the modules had to be swapped for 1G SFPs to talk to the gigabit device on the other side. Hardware involved: Aruba 2930, Aruba 2930F, 10G SFP+, Aruba J4858C, Aruba J4858D.
- Hardware: Aruba 2930, Aruba 2930F
- Transceivers: 10G SFP+, Aruba J4858C, Aruba J4858D
- Form factor: SFP, SFP+

Comments 2
SFP+ optics run only at 10 Gbps and cannot be down-rated like copper ports; to link at 1G a real 1G SFP such as J4858C (or the newer J4858D) must be used on the 2930.
Supported 1G transceivers were confirmed working in 2930F switches even against media converters on the far end.
